💻 Can ping default gateway but cannot access internet?

If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to save/copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here. 💻 Can we connect computer to internet without default gateway?

  • yes, but only using proxy servers. Yes you can browse the Internet without a Default gateway when a proxy server is used. A PC without a Gateway is like a home without an EXIT door. Regardless the way that you connect to internet you still need a Gateway IP address in order to communicate with the world.

💻 Connecting to internet without default gateway?

Yes. The router will default to a default gateway address (for example 192.168.0.1). The computer has no idea that that address is. But when the computer accesses an address outside the local network, it does not know that the router sends those packets on to the internet. Router does the 'gateway' work.

Host only adapters don't have a gateway, so you won't be able to ping it. If you are looking to communicate with the rest of the internet from that VM, you will need to connect an additional network adapter and choose "NAT" or "Bridged" mode. Good luck, you're on the right track! References:

My wifi is connected but I cannot access the Internet irrespective of the network to which I connect. I can ping the gateway but cannot ping 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS) which shows: Destination Net Unreachable. I tried adding nameserver 8.8.8.8 as the first uncommented line in /etc/resolv.conf but it didn't help. The traceroute 8.8.8.8 shows:

Assuming that your PC has its default gateway set to 10.1.2.1, the problem might be that your router does not have a route to 10.1.2.0/24. Can you please check this? The other way to test this would be to ping from your PC to 10.75.245.131, which should be reachable and will verify that the switch is routing properly.

Edit: Be sure if you have "Ubunut/WSL" set as your default profile in Windows Terminal, that you run the script prior to starting WSL. So if Ubuntu/WSL is your default, set your default to PowerShell, or switch over to PowerShell, run the command wsl --shutdown, then execute the above script, then reopen Ubuntu/WSL.

Actually, I got the IP of my container from Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. There was an adapter called vEthernet(DockerNAT) and it was the container's adapter. I could ping the IP I found for this adapter.

but i do not really understand where the problem lies and why. I will begin by showing you that my primary screen shows i am connected through ethernet: I left the mouse over the ethernet icon, However there is no internet or pinging. Here are screen captures of what you suggested me to do: 1. ipconfig / all: then there is the ping:
