Trade Routes are paths are that used to connect remote Starbases to your capital in order to exploit the trade value collected there. Each upgraded Starbase can support a single Trade Route by connecting to another Starbase, which is where the first Starbase will send all of its collected trade value.

Check the trade routes map mode, bottom right, it'll show you the path, as well as any piracy risk sectors if there are any. If there are, send a fleet there to patrol. There's also a trade routes button in the starbase screen itself, under modules. OP: piracy works differently now as well, and affects trade.

A Trade Route is a path that serves to connect a Starbase collecting Trade Value to the capital system and is required for the Trade Value to be exploited. Each upgraded Starbase has one outgoing Trade Route, which by default is connected directly to the capital, but can be manually re-routed to any other Starbase (select the base in trade route mapmode, then right-click on the target base to cancel or switch route).

There are three elements of a trade route: collection, protection, and routing. A starbase will collect trade value within a certain distance, measured in links. For each trade hub you build in the starbase, you can collect trade value from one more link away.

Starbases collect trade, as well as defend trade routes. By default, they collect and defend only the system they are built in. Any starbase that has received the first upgrade (ie- that counts against your starbase cap) will collect and defend the system it is built in, even if it doesn't have any buildings or modules built on it yet.

2. So, once I realized that my 'dead' trade hub is connected to a system without a startport, the solution was to: Build a starport in that system. Change the trade route of the 'dead' starport to the working one. Downgrade this recently built starport. Hope this will help somebody else. Share.
