6 Answers. All this means is that your computer sees a wireless broadcast that is not presenting a SSID. If you were to attempt to use it the first thing your connection wizard will ask for is the SSID which you would input. Then it would ask your for the security information like typical wireless connections.

My modem is broadcasting an unwanted wifi network with a hidden SSID on the same channel as my home wifi network causing tons of interference. I'm using Wifi Analyzer on my smartphone and I can see the hidden (unnamed) network has the same MAC address as my cable modem so I know my cable modem is the source of the secondary network.

I switched from an old WI-Fi 3 Xfinity gateway to a new WI-Fi 6 Xfinity XB7 T gateway. My work laptop won’t recognize the new WiFi network but literally every other device in my house has been able to connect to it. I have been on the phone for hours with my work IT team and Xfinity today.

Well, almost all routers. Some routers don’t broadcast their SSID because the hidden network WiFi option has been turned on in the settings. This option stops the broadcasting of the network’s SSID, which effectively causes it to disappear and become invisible to all devices that connect to WiFi networks.

Basically when the broadcast SSID option is enabled, all wireless capable devices can see your router listed together with a bunch of other wireless networks. This option provides a convenience for you to easily connect to it by clicking on your SSID and entering the security key.
